AFF Reminders
October 7 (Tonight) - 4-H Holiday at Sgt Bluff United Methodist Church. This is a great time to meet other 4-H'ers, make crafts, decorate cookies and learn about project areas.
Operation Christmas Child - Please bring to the next meeting items that can fit in a shoe box (school supplies, toiletries, small toys, hard candy) or fill your own shoe box as this will be our community service project for the month. Please do not include any "war" type toys or chocolate. Items do not need to be expensive and can be for children 4-14. More details will follow in another e-mail.
Please reply to this e-mail with your ideas for future meetings and community service projects. We now have nearly 50 members in the club with almost 20% of them being new. We want this club to be educational and be involved in the community, so please share your ideas!

WELCOME TO A NEW YEAR OF 4-H!!!
First Meeting of the AFF 4-H Club is Sunday, September 7 at 7 p.m. at Moville City Hall.
Be prepared to:
- Sign up for demonstrations
- Sign up to host meetings
- Sign up for committees
- Run for an office (prepare 1-2 reasons why you want the office and why your being in the office would be good for the club)
- Think about T-shirts - do we keep it the same (AFF), something new, or the retro arlington future farmers one - bring your ideas.
- Bring any friends who would like to join.
- Bring ideas of things you would like to do. (recreation, ways to improve our meetings, community service, fair or other improvement projects) It is your club!

HELP WITH THE HORSE BARN!
Many of you helped at the horse barn with repairs - well, now they have the paint ready to go! There will be paint and brushes available tomorrow at 8:00 am if you are willing to come by to put a fresh coat on the new boards.
They would certainly enjoy the help so that it looks sharp next week.

IMPORTANT FAIR NOTES
Fair Judging Reminders for Monday, July 28
1- Be sure you have a goal sheet and tag for each project and your Building Entry Form with each project listed. ( Contact Carolyn if you need more.) THERE WILL BE NO ENTRY TAGS OR BUILDING SHEETS AVAILABLE FROM COUNTY EMPLOYEES. ONLY WHAT CAROLYN HAS BROUGHT THAT DAY WILL BE AVAILABLE SO TO GUARANTEE THAT YOU HAVE THEM, PLEASE GO TO THE EXTENSION OFFICE IF YOU NEED MORE.
2- Turn in your Season Tickets/Money and get your Exhibitor Ticket from Carolyn at booths A12-!4.
3- Go to the Varied Industry Building for judging at 12:30 p.m.
Get an Orange Ticket and find lines for projects. Be prepared to discuss your project with the judge.
4- Present your Building Entry Sheet and Exhibitor Ticket to get your premium money right after judging. Take your projects back to the booth in the 4-H Building.
5- Remember that we host the 4- H exhibit building Thursday,July 31 from 3:30 -6:30 p.m. Put on your 4-H shirt and plan to spend an hour in the building, if you are not busy showing other projects.
6- Good Luck - you have worked hard! Enjoy the fair.
7- Projects will be released at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug 3. Please pick up your projects and help tear down the exhibit building.
8- Swimming Party - Haskell Pool 8:15 p.m. Tues. Aug. 5.

Fair Book Hard Copies of the Fair Books are now at the Woodbury County Extension Office and the Fair Office. Don’t forget you can go on the Woodbury website for 4-H fair forms too or stop by the office
FSQA Workshop July 7, 5:00 pm
4-H’ers planning to exhibit: beef, sheep, swine, goats, dairy cattle, poultry and/or rabbits
4-H’ers who are 9, 10, 11 years old on January 1 and have not attended an FSQA workshop – there is a workshop on July 7, 5:00 pm at the Woodbury County Extension Office. 4-Hers 12, 13 & 14 years old can attend or test out. 4-H’ers 15 years – 18 years old need to test out. Youth older then 18 will need to be in the adult program.
4-H’ers who don’t attend a workshop or test out will not be able to exhibit animals at the fair.
King & Queen Apps due July 7
If you know of any youth who are interested in the king and queen contest – please encourage them to apply. The applications are due this coming Monday, July 7. For king applications call Jenny Colbert at 712-898-2228 (phone was wrong in the Scene) and for queen applications you can contact Angie Schrunk at 712-373-9802.

Current County Council members and 4-H’ers who will be in 10th,11th or 12th grade may want to apply for 4-H County Council. Letters were sent to all eligible members.
Hang Tags are the only forms that are not available on line. 4-H’er can pick up tags from 4-H leaders or the Extension Office – NONE will be available on Monday, July 28 – 4-H Building Judging Day.

The Woodbury County Fair Board is planning a Kids Zone in Herbold Hall for young kids to participate in during the fair. The Fair Board is asking for help from 4-H Clubs. Help can include jumbo Legos, sand box type toys, other age appropriate toys, cash donations or help from 4-H’ers/parents during the fair in monitoring the Kids Zone area during the fair. Contact Matt Jackson at 712-5723 if you are willing to help. This would be an excellent community service project!

We need members to bring pets to the Main Street Park from 1-3 p.m Saturday, June 7th. If you have no pets, put on your 4-H shirt and help with people's pets.
If you want to ride the float, be at the south ball diamonds by 4:45 p.m. Sat. June 7th. Wear your 4-H shirt;squirt guns and water supply are optional.

Meeting this Sunday!

Demonstrations - Bailey Kennedy, Suzie, Ray, and Nick Scheelhause, Kayla Sands, Shelby and Tyler Perez, Zach and Lucas Klingensmith. Note that our club guidelines state that you must give a demonstration speech (first year members excluded) in order to show at the county fair.

June 7th - Moville Daze - come bring animals and/or help at the petting zoo!
June 8th - Recognition night at the fairgrounds. Come at 5:00 for dinner (pre-registration required) or at 5:45 for the awards (no cost). This is a great time to see club members be recognized for their project report work and is also a great time to see what awards are available. We also submitted a nomination for "Club of the Year" which will be recognized that night.

THURSDAY, MAY 15 - Livestock ID forms are due for dairy cattle, dairy and meat goats, breeding heifers, cow-calf pairs, feeder calves, swine, sheep, horse and dog.

URGENT NOTICE -
People attending the winter fun day at King's Pointe Resort, 1520 E. Lakeport Drive, Storm Lake ( 1 -866-552-5960) should meet at the swimming pool parking lot about 12:15 - departure 12:30 Sunday. You may bring a guest, but no coolers are allowed. Admission of $ 5 will be paid for each member and driver. Estimated return time 6:30.

Congratulations on a great fundraiser!
Thanks to all the members and their families for their help with the soup and pie supper. We took in $1388 before bills.
Jared Schramm is our champion pie baker and impressive competition came from Shelby Perez, Keeley Beers, Landan Paulsen, Levi Paulsen, and Drew Schramm.
Tyler Perez was the top ticket seller with 17 tickets sold, followed by Mark Rippke with 13 and Cyrus Berndt with 12.
Dylan Bechen, Bailey Bechen, Shelby Perez, Kelsey Sands, Skylar Sands, Brittany Schermann, Drew Schramm, Jared Schramm, Michael Wright, and Matthew Wright also reached sales quotas for our drawing. Great job!
